Media Training

W Communications helps clients prepare for media interviews, appearances on radio and TV, business presentations, speeches, press conferences, satellite media tours, and web chats. Through one-on-one media training, W Communications helps train clients to ‘think like a reporter.' Part of the preparation is anticipating the reporter's subjects and lines of questioning.

W Communications first finds out the type of audience the presentation or interview will be given to/heard/seen. Secondly, three main talking points or business goals/messages are created and agreed upon. These are the talking points the client will communicate to the reporter. In the communications business they are called ‘sound bites' and the best sound bites are prepared in advance of the interview.

In many instances, the media is looking for a ‘news hook' or a controversy. If the client is being interviewed under adverse conditions, i.e. product recall, W Communications helps prepare the client about how the press is going to think and how the press is going to react to the situation. The key to preparing for media interviews, is honing and developing the message before the interview so the client takes charge of the interview and is not caught off guard.

The best possible media training results will be to have the client handle the interview with confidence and poise, but also be able to deliver the message and pull the quote.

After researching the client and the topic the client wants to discuss, W Communications prepares questions and conducts a mock interview. After the mock interview, W Communications reviews each answer with the client and offers tips. The process is repeated until the client feels comfortable in a reporter/subject environment.
